Clinical Pilates
6th June 2023
You may be aware by now that we teach clinical pilates six days a week. So what is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates involves slow careful movements. Initially on the floor but can evolve into quite dynamic, challenging moves as client’s progress. Designed to work the core muscles around a neutral spine it is perfect for those recovering from back pain. Did you know that it is also great for shoulder, neck, hip and knee injuries too? And scoliosis! Plus for people playing sports wanting to develop their balance and core strength?
Another thing that we love about clinical pilates is movement dissociation! The ability to move arms and legs independently of the trunk. This might not sound like much BUT the number of clients who come to class with an injury and the inability to separate out movements is remarkable! Day to day we don’t think about how we lift our arms in relation to our body. However, by improving our awareness and control of how our limbs move really does help when we are recovering from a painful injury. By tackling this diligently, we see client’s pain levels rapidly reduce.
Outside of the more commonly known benefits of Pilates, we love the fact that it helps our clients desensitise painful movements with slow careful actions. We also love it, as it helps clients develop a much greater awareness of how their bodies work.
And no, Clinical Pilates is not for ladies! It benefits everyone. You can find out more about it here.
