Back Pain: What treatment? Massage or Manipulation?

Perhaps you find that a treatment “releases” the pain, but then a while later you’re back where you started? (That’s a great business model if you think about it! It keeps clients coming back over and over again as it’s really hard to treat your own back! – keep reading this is NOT what we are about)
Maybe you’ve been told your back is out of alignment? Or your glute is not firing properly? Or perhaps your hip flexors are over active? Or you have MASSIVE knots that need working out?
The reason we ask?
We’re getting ALOT of calls at the moment for exactly this! Prospective clients wanting massage or manipulation or something similar.
To be clear as Graduate Sports Therapist we are different beasts to Massage Therapists. They are the Picasso’s of massage. They can create a symphony of experience for you. But if you want a massage from a Graduate Sports Therapist… well put it this way: It’s like going to Italy and living off Mcdonalds. Or going to listen to the London Philharmonic wearing ear plugs.
You’re not benefiting from the full experience of injury rehabilitation.
Now if we wanted to make a lot of money, with regular repeat business then absolutely, we’d do this without hesitation.
BUT….. That’s not how we work here at Balanced Bodies. We are committed to helping our client have the best possible experience. We want to show them how to get rid of their back pain FOR GOOD. Not just temporarily. We want to EMPOWER you in your recovery. We want to ENABLE you in your rehab journey. We want to EDUCATE you in your understanding of what’s happening and why. Because we are committed to showing you how to break the cycle of pain permanently. Not just until the next flare up.
So absolutely, we want to be able to earn an income but not at the cost of stepping away from what we know is the right path.
We have first hand experience of living with back pain at Balanced Bodies. It’s why Joanna changed careers and went back to university. The reason she took this drastic career change? She got fed up with receiving treatments to manage it. She definitely didn’t want to keep forking out money each week, or month, for treatments that wore off all too quickly. And why did no one ever talk to Joanna about stopping the cycle of pain for good?
Well that’s what we’re about at Balanced Bodies. We’re not interested in taking your money for quick / temporary fixes. There are NO magic hands. We don’t want to give you only a massage or “manipulation” because we know that it will wear off. We want to give you the gift of FULL RECOVERY. Not partial. Not a little bit of relief. We want to give you COMPLETE relief FOREVER.
So you’ll have to forgive Joanna if she gets a little passionate about the topic. She really does live and breath it. And yes, she does get a little carried away sometimes and explain the science behind what’s going on.
Don’t get us wrong, we’ll still use hands on treatments like massage and manual therapy in a session… if it’s indicated for. We use it regularly, but we know that it’s not what works. So often it’ll be a few minutes of treatments in order to get you moving. Then we focus on the important things that really do make the difference! The research backs this up and we’re happy to share this with you if you want to know more.
That’s why we don’t offer stand alone massages or cracking for back pain sufferers. Because we know that there’s a better solution. And this solution is about a long term sustainable solution that removes the need for you to keep running back to your practitioner.
The best thing about it? You get to reclaim a life that a lot of back pain sufferers write off!
